The Representative of Sri Lanka to the State of Palestine, Mr. Mohamed Farook Mohamed Fawzer, and the Attaché Mr. S.R. Mahinda Kumar had participated in the Panel Discussion titled: “Not Their First Catastrophe Palestinians Narrating the Ongoing Nakba”, which was organized by The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue & Democracy (MIFTAH), and was held at the A.M. Qattan Foundation HQ’s, Ramallah, on 13th May 2026.
The Panelists included: Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, MIFTAH, BoD Chairperson, Ambassador Husam Zomlot, Head, Palestinian Mission to the United Kingdom, and Farha Abu Al Haija, MIFTAH Jenin Field Consultant.
The event centered the commemoration of the Nakba not only as an act of historical remembrance, but as a necessary confrontation with its ongoing manifestations. The open dialog event featured speakers who examined the continuing reality of the Nakba through present-day dynamics such as de facto annexation of the West Bank, forced displacement, and settler terror.
It also highlighted testimonies collected by MIFTAH from elderly women in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, some of whom lived through the 1948 Nakba and are now facing renewed displacement.
